Featuring a compelling performance by acclaimed Slovenian actor Igor Samobor, Class Enemy is a powerful psychological drama that explores the fragile dynamics of authority, communication and responsibility within a classroom.
When a stern and uncompromising teacher takes over a class as a maternity replacement, his strict teaching methods and emotionally detached approach quickly create tensions with his students. As the conflict escalates, the classroom becomes a battleground of conflicting perspectives, raising unsettling questions about blame and empathy.
The critically acclaimed feature debut of Slovenian director Rok Biček, Class Enemy premiered at the 2013 Venice International Film Festival, where it received the FEDEORA Award for Best Film in the International Critics’ Week section. The film was also selected as Slovenia’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2014 Academy Awards.
The season Classroom Cinema is curated by Tom Saer in collaboration with the Film Studies, Programming and Curation Master’s programme at the National Film and Television School (NFTS).
